“30 Days in the Hole” by The Dead Daisies

Not many singers in the history of rock n’ roll music have had as incredible a career as the legendary Glenn Hughes has. From Deep Purple to Black Sabbath and just recently The Dead Daisies, Hughes’ voice has become one of the most recognizable in the whole of the genre, and it’s bringing to life the Humble Pie classic “30 Days in the Hole” in a way few other acts have been able to in the past forty years this fall. The Dead Daisies return with one of the most poignant covers I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing in 2020, and it’s absolutely a track I would regard as a fantastic listen for rockers of all ages right now.

“Radiate” from Glorybots

While I would stop well short of saying they’re the most defining element in the whole of the song, there’s no getting around the pure size and supreme texture the guitar parts in the new single “Radiate” from Glorybots add to the track and its music video. 2020 has been one of the weakest years for indie rock that I’ve personally experienced as a music critic in quite some time, but in the spirit of paying homage to a classic style of alternative pop/rock attitude, Glorybots’ latest cut off of the seminal Invisible LP breaks all the contemporary rules in the name of embracing the strange.

“Waves” (Single/Video) by ASHRR

Though its presence is buried within the mix, as to act like a foundation more than a cosmetic feature, the key synth part in “Waves” provides us with a surprisingly strong and organic feeling of warmth throughout the course of this new single and music video from California’s own ASHRR. In “Waves,” industrial, gothic, synth-pop instrumentation and post-punk songwriting aesthetics intersect, resulting in what could be one of the more angular hard rock arrangements I’ve had the great pleasure of checking out this September. ASHRR came to do some real business here, and they aren’t taking aim at their California rivals exclusively.

AV Super Sunshine Drops New Single/Video

AV Super Sunshine’s momentum hasn’t slowed down for anything in the last few years - from pandemics, popular trends in the industry, even a class of critics completely divided on how to brand his work, nothing has been able to impede his consistent growth and credibility within an expanding American underground. This fall, he’s back at it again with a new single and music video in “Baby Goodbye 2020” that seems all too appropriate for the times we’re living in today, and from my own perspective, I think it could be some of his darkest (re-worked) material yet.

Head Fake Drops New Single

Twisted more than a piece of taffy prior to hitting the candy store shelves, there’s no keeping up with the groove in “Sucker For Your Ways” unless you’re one of the adept players in Head Fake, the amazing indie rock syndicate responsible for the single and music video’s existence this month. “Sucker For Your Ways” jumps out of the speakers on the back of a sonic wave comprised equally of funky beats and noise-pop style discord, and if you’re able to resist its hypnotic sway, you’re definitely not much of a music fan. For Head Fake, 2020 is a year of evolution, and they’re exhibiting as much in this track.

Songs like “Don’t Sit Next To Me” and “Drink The Drama” showcase a chilled vigor that displays the connection one has when defeat presents itself. While “Tangy” and “Clean Bass” are lively additions that bring the party vibes to the table.
