Celtic Folk Rock from South Carolina Headed West in 2019

Columbia, South Carolina — Tuesday, February 1st, 2019 — Celtic folk rockers, SYR (sire) continue to gain momentum, adding the prestigious Longs Peak Highland Games in Estes Park, CO to their list of 2019 appearances. Other new festivals include Northeast Florida Highland Games, Savannah Irish Fest, Gallabrae, and the Low Country Irish Fest in Charleston, SC. The band’s latest album, The Winter King, continues to introduce their unique sound to new fans in the US and overseas.

From humble beginnings at pubs and local venues in SC, SYR has become a welcome addition to larger Celtic festivals and events. Taking inspiration from Celtic history, stories and myths, SYR blends their own unique musical backgrounds to create powerful songs with themes like battle, love, loss, and victory. Front man Kyle MacCallum founded SYR on the belief that the rich heritage of the Celtic Nations could be brought to life in a contemporary musical style with broad audience appeal.

In 2018, the band was featured in Irish Music Magazine, 67 Music Podcast, Marc Gunn’s Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, and celticmusicradio.net. SYR has shared the stage with such established groups as Albannach, Enter the Haggis, Seven Nations, The Glengarry Bhoys, Saor Patrol, Tuatha Dea, the Steel City Rovers and Barleyjuice, gaining the respect of their peers for their fresh sound, audience engagement and high-energy performance.

SYR’s goal is to eventually tour full-time in the US and Canada, sharing their love of history and music.

SYR consists of siblings Kyle (vocals, guitar) and Laurel MacCallum (vocals, percussion), Emily Bracey-Neff (violin), Kelly Huff (bass), Luis Valverde (drums) and Ben Campbell (guitar).

Experience SYR at www.syrmusic.com, or on Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, CDBaby, and other online music outlets.

SYR has been described as “Celtic rock with a Game of Thrones vibe” by one enthusiastic Festival Director. Without the inclusion of bagpipes, SYR has become a welcome addition to many events, allowing new audiences a greater variety of music. Songs in Scottish Gaelic as well as English, fiddle-powered instrumentals, and a distinct rock undertone brings audiences to their feet everywhere SYR plays.
