Nashville Songwriter Releases Country Self-Help Digital Single
-Nashville, TN- July 30, 2020- “Change Your Thinking,” a country/rock “self-help” record, has been released by Nashville songwriter Raleigh Squires, who describes it as an effort to deliver a positive spiritual message to people struggling with life issues like alcohol/drug addictions and mental health problems like anxiety and depression.
Squires believes the song, an up-tempo, rocking music track with country instrumentation from some of Nashville’s best country players and “very positive, hopefully, mind- changing” lyrics, could help people suffering from any cause of anxiety or depression turn their lives around.”
“I’ve had close family members dealing with serious drug and alcohol addictions–and all of us deal with anxiety and depression at some point,” Squires said, “I believe we get caught up in life and spend most of our thinking reacting in a negative way to what we see as negative events in our lives not realizing how much power those thoughts actually have. They are like prayer. Ask and you shall receive. A lot of times we get just what we’re accidentally asking for.”
“This song just says, ‘Pay Attention’, to what you are thinking and use your thoughts to shape the life you want,” Squires added. “The content is totally different, and while it doesn’t fit the current trends in the genre, I believe radio will play it simply because it’s positive, it’s universal, and it sounds as good as anything else. Obviously, if the radio would play it, the message would reach more people. If it helps one person, it could save a life, so it’s worth taking the shot. It’s something everybody ought to hear at least once a day.”
Squires said the record will be digitally distributed to multiple radio formats.
The record was co-produced with Squires by Buddy Cannon, Kenny Chesney’s long-time producer whose other credits are a who’s who of country music, including Willie Nelson, Reba McEntire, Merle Haggard, Alison Kraus, and Jamey Johnson, among others.
Squires and Cannon both worked and wrote for Mel Tillis’ Sawgrass/Sabal Music through the 1970s and 1980s. They’ve had several co-writes recorded by the likes of George Strait, Don Williams, Vern Gosdin, the Oak Ridge Boys. One collaboration, “Dream Of Me,” was a Billboard Top 10 single on Gosdin on an Indie label while at the same time appearing on the Oaks multi-platinum “Fancy Free” album that contained one of their biggest singles, “Elvira.” Most recently Alison Krauss included it on her’ “Windy City” country album two years ago.
“I came to Buddy because he’s my friend and I knew I would get the very best Nashville has to offer and I also knew he wouldn’t do it if the song wasn’t there,” Squires said. “He reinforced my belief in it just by agreeing to do it.”
The record is on Squires’ independent Squires Boys Music label and is available digitally at most online music outlets. You can hear “Change Your Thinking” at these Internet web addresses.
