Score: 8.5/10 Stars

(COPENHAGEN, DK) “Vinyl Floor is a 3-piece rock band which hails from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band was formed in 2007 and consists of the two brothers Thomas Charlie Pedersen and Daniel Pedersen and the longtime friend and colleague Rasmus Bruun. The sound is very much their own but the style is primarily drawn from the melodic and energetic 60´s/70’s and likewise from the edgy progressive rock of the 90’s. The band combines symphonic and grandiose expression with the urge to write melodic songs, always non-compromising and exploring new frontiers.

“Vaudeville” was released in 2014. Listing to the first few tracks this music fuses classic UK based tock of the 80’s with Alternative Rock. I know this band is from Denarmk, but despite this they have a UK feel like U2. Vaudeville is in itself an exceptional music and multi-dimensional to say the least. The music itself is uplifting, thought provoking, interesting and overly eccentric (in a good way). It also however possesses an Alternative Rock core breaking the traditional mold. Does all of this sound a bit over the top to you? Just listen to marquee tracks like “Change the Song” “Shift” and Just a Shadow” and you’ll see my perspective. I got hooked on these 3 right away after hearing the first few moments of Track 1 “Change the Song.”

Vinyl Floor are: Thomas Charlie Pedersen (vocal, guitar, piano), Rasmus Bruun (guitar, piano, organ) and Daniel Pedersen (drums, vocals, piano)

DISCOGRAPHY: 1. Do you Still Dream (ALBUM) 2009. 2. Peninsula (ALBUM) 2012. 3. ‘Untitled’ (ALBUM) 2014.

In my own words Vinyl Floor writes and performs music with a unique hybrid style that fuses the rhythms of America with rock melodies and a sometimes painfully honest perspective. The result is his unique style UK rhythms and sounds with short, emotional burst of energy – a life’s opus if you will for an increasingly busy age that ask us to examine the world in a fresh light. I hate to pigeonhole but if you like Massive Attack

Muse, U2, The National, Sparta, Afghan Whigs and White Lies you will like Vinyl Floor. Pedersen is a solid rock singer and showcases lot of emotional depth – high and low side.

The main focus of this genre of music is generally the personality of the artist, here Vinyl Floor will win you over without even trying. The amazing lyrical content never feels like an afterthought. What’s more the vocal work and impeccable songwriting that really brings it all together. All in all it’s a powerful combination that puts a new band like Vinyl Floor on the map for 2014. They should go a long way towards proving that real music is still alive and well.
