Interview: Alonzo

Hey Alonzo! Thanks for your time. I’m going to start with – I totally love all of your TikTok videos, your positivity and dance moves are just infectious. What social media platform do you prefer the most when connecting with fans and why?

Hey! Thank you! TikTok is actually the newest of all of my social media platforms. I’ve been having too much fun haha. I’d say right now TikTok is my favorite because its growing rapidly. I just hit 12K followers in 2 Months. It literally took me 2 years to get that on Instagram. TikTok is cool because it allows me to show a more fun side of me that my fans don’t normally get to see. It’s also my favorite because it reminds me of how FB & Instagram were before they became all about profit and algorithm. People on TikTok are literally just having fun. “Likes” is not the priority.

I have read that you hope to make music your only source of income and to be able to make a living from music. In the mean time, you have a serious hustle with both working and making music. How do you make music a priority every day? Any advice for artists that may feel overwhelmed with both?

It really can be overwhelming. I literally had to take a deep breathe just thinking about it. I get it, realistically we have to survive so money is important. The task is making survival a priority while not putting your dreams to the side. We still have to invest TIME and money into ourselves. I quite literally put my dreams first every day. After meditating in the morning, I go to the gym and after the gym I spend a few hours doing things for my career. The day is reserved for career moves. Then NIGHT is when I’m driving postmates or working other jobs that pay the bills. I’ve found this works best for me. So often in LA we see artists slaving at 9-5’s all day and by the time the evening hits they are too tired to work on things for their career. They have to get up the next day and do it all over again and before you know it this cycle has caused months to go by without any real progress. I personally believe that you have to be strategic and intentional with the power moves you make for yourself.

So as far as how listeners consume your music – do you miss the era of CD sales or do you prefer the new wave of music streaming?

I LOVEEEE the new wave of music streaming. I just wish I could make more playlists so my music can be exposed to more people haha. Im glad things have changed because CD distribution was really expensive. Realistically, it would have been too expensive for an independent artist to distribute music to the masses. Music streaming & Social Media are best friends to independent artists.

This maybe a no brainer but between creating in the studio or performing live on stage, which do you enjoy most and why?

Definitely a no brainer haha. I’d for sure say I enjoy performing live more than anything. Being on stage is so healing for me. It’s the place where I feel the most powerful and It’s the only place where I feel safe from anxiety attacks lbvs. I’m sure that’s hilarious because for the average person a stage will give them an anxiety attack. Just knowing that much is why I know the stage is where I belong.

What inspires you most about the music industry these days? And on the flip to that what discourages you the most or something you wish you could change?

I’m inspired right now because I genuinely feel that real talent is rising from the ashes. The music business is getting back to real music/talent and we ALL can literally feel it. I’m excited to be a part of this new wave. I could go in and write a paragraph about what discourages me but I’m going to make a choice right now to focus on the positive and hope that what I just said overpowers ALL of the negative.

What is on your agenda or what can fans expect to see from you in 2020?

Literally in the recording studio as I type these very words. Im finishing the project that will change my life forever. Mark My words… Debut EP, Tour, & More! SUMMER 2020. Stay tuned.
