Interview with Joey Stuckey

Hello Joey! Thanks for your time today! We know that you released a Christmas EP that was wonderful but can you tell us any plans for other new music?

Yes, I am putting together a live album from our 2019 tour of the east coast and also from our set at the world famous Whisky A Go Go that we just returned from on January 3, 2020.

I am also working on mixing a new jazz record I recorded in 2018. But as to what I will release next, it is hard to say. I had the honor to meet an incredible producer and sound engineer, Ron Saint Germain, this year in NYC and he and his lovely wife have become dear friends. So I know he and I will be doing some music together in 2020 as well.

You are such a talented and accomplished writer, will you give us any advice for someone wanting to write music but not sure where to start?

The best thing you can do is to educate yourself in the craft. While it is the path I took, you don’t have to go to college, however, you need to find someone credible to share their knowledge with you. While the internet is amazing and full of useful tools, be careful as to where you get your information. Remember, anyone can have a blog or YouTube channel!

Spend time working on your writing every day and make sure to finish every song you start. Even if you don’t like the results, it is important to finish what you start!

I know this is going to be tough, but if you had to pick one – which of your songs you have released or yet to release if your favorite?

LOL that is tough! I like different songs for different reasons, but I am really enjoying my fans’ reaction to my first Christmas song “Santa That Plays Guitar” released on Halloween of 2019.

So currently, that is my favorite, even though it isn’t the Christmas season anymore and we are now off to the races for 2020. I just love how much people have taken to this silly little tune. I guess the other favorite song the band is currently enjoying performing live is “Born To Be Your Toy”. This is a song I wrote with my dear friend Charlie Hoskyns, who sadly passed away in 2017. I have a version that has been recorded by me and Charlie, but haven’t released it yet. We just debuted the song at our Whisky A Go Go show and people really responded to it!

Tell us what was the last song you heard that you just couldn’t get enough of and why?

When I am making art for myself, I just do what I do and don’t worry about style or genre. I am eclectic by nature and embrace that. However, as a producer, I am a different person and I think about a lot of things. I find that the world of pop music has had a great last few years with artists like Julian Michaels “Nervous System” Camila Cabello “Romance” and Tylor Swift “Lover”.

I have been a bit obsessed with Taylor’s songs “I Forgot That You Existed” and “Miss Americana And The Heart Break Prince” and “Senorita” by Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes. I have listened to these over and over a again, not just because they are well written songs performed by talented professionals, but because of what they have to teach those in the recording sciences!

Anything else going on in your world you would like to share?

I am launching a new studio space next to my already existing space and it is going to be something special! It will come online at some point late summer or early fall 2020 and I just can’t wait. Please feel free to check up on our progress by visiting www.shadowsoundstudio.com
