Faisal Al Kooheji found early success at the tender age of eleven-years-old when he became the youngest composer in Bahrain. He’d taken his original music and paired it with a poem he’d found by Khalifa Al Isa. That garnered him the attention of many. In between then and now he’s kept music around him as he’s gone on to receive higher education and start a career. Faisal Al Kooheji has also been busy performing over the past two decades. Now he’s ready to perform more of his originals thanks to the release of Just a Moment.

Gino McKoy is a newcomer to the entertainment business, but he’s sounding like a seasoned pro in “Sensy Girl,” one of the featured songs from his forthcoming film debut Lumina and star single of its soundtrack. “Sensy Girl” is a smooth cocktail of hip-hop and urban pop, and although it employs similar themes to what one might find when browsing mainstream R&B tracks this summer, it by no means blends into the crowd. Both the music video and the song itself are elegantly produced and undeniably evocative on multiple fronts, which isn’t usually the case for a first timer in this medium.
In retrospect, WOUNDEDSPiRiT is older than most music makers today. Formed 30 years ago, they did their time playing the local circuit and impressing Steve Wright of Radio 1 when they first came onto the scene, but after a tour of Spain in 2000, they seemed to hang it up. But like many musicians who were made for it, they didn’t stay away from it forever. After getting together for a show in 2016, it clicked all over again. Two years later they dropped their long-awaited debut, FOREVER young.
A sparkling synth melody adorns the opening bars of “Darling Anna,” lead single from 2.O.F.’s The Machine EP, but their gilded introduction doesn’t hold a candle to the musical magic that they’ll soon unleash in this debut release from the Tim Milliken-led project. Milliken has invited an ensemble cast of guest players, performance artists and expressionists across various mediums to partake in 2.O.F., and we definitely get the eclectic feel that he was going for in “Darling Anna.” This single is difficult to categorize, as it employs influences from classical A/C, synthpop, alternative rock and electronic club music, but there’s never a moment where the material sounds like the product of a halfhearted hybrid (the likes of which have inexplicably become popular in the late 2010s). 2.O.F. offers up an experimental ballad outfitted with as many sonic frills as it is poetic chills in this hot new single, but casual pop fans needn’t feel intimidated by its highbrow stylization – in all honesty, “Darling Anna” is probably one of the easier listens I’ve heard this July.
Americana and rustic western swing have been all the rage in 2019, but on the flipside, a new breed of country artist is emerging from the background shadows, and at the forefront of this movement we find singer/songwriters like Chris Douglas, whose debut single “Ain’t Getting Any Younger,” has the firepower of a rock tune with all of the swaggering country color that fans have come to demand in a “New Nashville” act. Douglas isn’t trying to change the narrative of the traditional country sound in this track, but rather adding his own pop-friendly bend to a tried and true framework.
