Luke Jon Shearer drops CD
Luke Jon Shearer is a compelling artist from Australia and his latest CD released in 2014 is entitled Close Your Eyes, Open Your Mind. Straight away I get the impression Shearer is no stranger to the Electronic Rock movement. This painful, dark and, at times, hauntingly beautiful compilation of tracks are the fruits of life itself. The dark inspirations that find their way into this album with trying too hard to do so and these latest tracks will no doubt turn heads in the scene.
Most bands and artists don’t want to sit around just waiting for someone to make our dreams come true, they are doing it themselves. This latest album captures the pure essence of this chilled out electronic mood music at its best. All 10 tracks provide what I would describe as an intensely exhilarating experience that tingle the senses into submission. In this aspect I think I get Shearer. If you’re looking for a Retro rock record this is not for you though. If you want something dark and progressive – search no more. Frontal member Shearer fits together many musical styles like a hand in glove. As a result he delivers middle ground material between raw honest almost Ambient-Rock overtones that could even be classified as Chill-Pop or Sonic Pop. The first 2 tracks Black Rain and Precious One not only walk hand in hand but are like pouring fire into the soul. I guess the closest artist I would compare Shearer to would be Doves, Feeder, Paul Hartnoil, The Orb, Long Range and Leftfield. Shearer also harmonizes well and the overall musicianship is highly refined.
Some feel music is a way to buzz the senses during any activity i/e concerts, clubs, dancing, exercising, getting drunk, all of the above and more – you get it. Some want to hear about love while other listeners want to go deeper and darker. From one of the more-starker tracks (Black Rain) to more straight forward Peace on Earth and To the Moon any music fan can find something they would enjoy in this mixture of superlative songs. Shearer offers an ample listening environment with a stimulating sound that will appeal to a legion of cult followers beyond Australia. It’s also modern enough where they don’t; sound stuck in the 90’s like some Ambient Pop Artists do.
Close Your Eyes, Open Your Mind by Luke Jon Shearer will encourage the listener to delve in life’s dark truths, no matter what the circumstance. Shearer deserve a lot of credit for bringing all this tougher. This CD is a fascinating statement worth checking out via the below link. I enjoyed this album sitting on my couch on full blast, with eyes closed eager to see where the musical journey took me. To be honest I had a few beers as well. This sounds so simple but it’s in this setting Luke Jon Shearer will work his amazing magic on your mind, body and soul.
