Erica Sunshine Lee – Southern Amendment

Erica Sunshine Lee is a hot running gal from Southern Georgia area. Her latest EP released is entitled “Southern Amendment”. Nowadays making music is so accessible to anyone and being that we have the do it yourself attitude, it just makes sense. Most bands don’t want to sit around just waiting for someone to make our dreams come true, they are doing it themselves. This latest release by Lee is an extremely bright, cheerful, at times thoughtful/powerful album that captures the pure essence of Classic Country, Jam Band Blues at its best. All 5 tracks provide an intensely exhilarating experience that can tingle the senses into submission. In this aspect I think I get Lee. If you’re looking for a sappy love record this may not be for you. If your looking for The Rhianna – again not for you. If you are looking for something in between – it’s the perfect record for you. The frontal core member of Lee is backed by some very capable players. Her voice fits this style of music like a hand in glove. Lee delivers middle ground between sappy love songs and raw honest rock subject matter. The first 2 tracks (Mud on My Boots)and (Another Sad Love Song) are like pouring gasoline on a fire. I guess the closest artist I would compare her to would be Shania Twain and Miranda Lambert. I can also hear Faith Evans and Sara Evans. Some feel music is a way to buzz the senses during any activity i/e concerts, clubs, dancing, exercising, getting drunk, all of the above and more - you get it. Some want to hear about love while other listeners want to go deeper and darker. From one of her more powerful pieces “Leaving Atlanta” to more straight forward “Girls With Guns” any music fan can find something they would enjoy in this mixture of superlative songs. My favorite track is “Girls with Guns.”

BAD—AVERAGE—GOOD—ABOVE AVERAGE-–STELLAR

One of the greatest things a music-lover experiences is the discovery of a new artist so exciting, it makes the listener want to write about it.  Sometimes, such jewels are found “underground” rather than mainstream media, but then again, that’s just one of the reasons why the indie scene can be so fascinating; It is a stage designed for creative people, a platform to let their art be seen, and in this case, be heard.  Some artists have been around for a while bit nonetheless are beneath our radar. Norway’s own VITNE is one of these aforementioned discoveries with their latest EP entitled appropriately “Endless Blue.”

Bands like Drastic Andrew will restore your faith in rock. The cling-clang of doom has rang out across the land and rock music is considered now, if anything, the dying fare peddled by aging bands to graying audiences. Thankfully, Drastic Andrew doesn’t buy into the fatalism. Instead, this New Mexico based outfit crafts consistently catchy and energetic material never lacking in intelligence or originality. They have tangible influences running through much of their songwriting, but these touches inform rather than guide the band. The band’s latest release, Live Without Warning, is a twelve song collection brimming with creativity and imagination.

Tachale Chamber Orchestra is a six member band based out of Gainesville, Florida which according to their Twitter profile, the description of their music is “Beatles, Beach Boys and Smiths playing at a funeral.” I have to agree with them because their sound does remind me of the Beach Boys and a little of Beatles. I’ll also add that their music is pretty dark and if you’re in a mood to cry or just want to listen to something that might express some sadness then this is the music for you.

Run Downhill

Run Downhill

The latest Release SPURS #2.2. Midnight Road Trip from Run Downhill has fire and a rambling of the soul in a haunting fashion. The Los Angeles band Run Downhill has a timeless unique sound that is reminiscent of the Psychedelic Furs from the eighties. A wanton journey through the eyes of emotion and sound this band has Country Indie Sound down to an art.

Run Downhill’s correlation with graphic art novels that shake drama and move the ground is the perfect pairing making a lasting impression for the imprint of living from a completely different perspective of imagined love and the corruption of men. The loss of innocence is felt in these novels by T.J. Troy and illustrations by Chris McFann. The motion comic that runs as Run Downhill captures the storyline is complete perfection which is accomplished by T.J. Troy and Eddie Young.

Ann Wilson is a hero to both men and women alike. Heart was one of those bands that showed that a female can rock as hard as any man, any day or any week. I don’t want to dwell on that male/female rock issue too much in this review, but like Grace Slick before her, Ann did a true service to rock n’ roll that paved the way for many artists to come. Though Heart hasn’t released an album since 2012’s solid Fanatic, Wilson has been slowly and cautiously forging out on her own again, this time with her latest brainchild The Ann Wilson Thing’s latest EP, released back in September. Anyone longing for the singer’s authentic and individual approach will surely find something to love here.

Shotgun Holler – Loaded

Shotgun Holler – Loaded

There’s thoughtfulness here that you won’t find coming out of Nashville. Or anywhere else for that matter. This is music written and recorded completely heedless of fashion and never bowing in mimicked tribute to the genre’s icons. Shotgun Holler shows a startling easy flair for juggling the genre’s musical conventions while enlivening them with a tangible sense of personal risk. Loaded’s eleven songs aren’t edgy, folk-inspired creations. They are uniformly polished to sparkling and recorded with obvious care and consideration. The five members of the band have pursued their craft for many years and it shows.
