Wht.rbbt.obj Release “Whiskey Hotel Tango”
Bluesy, smoky, sexy, and raw, wht.rbbt.obj (“White Rabbit Object”) represents a “femme fatale” in the realm of guitar-driven alternative rock from Chicago, Illinois. Originating as a clandestine side project for a married couple they started playing shows and working on their EP Whiskey Hotel Tango.
The music on this EP sizzles. It’s edgy, has attitude and often contains performances that resonate with a technical and creative spark. For the most part the influence felt overt and the band isn’t trying to push these songs into experimentation but rather harness the energy, spirit and vitality that made rock such an electric experience. The band has done enough to create a signature sound that defines their name.
From the opening notes of “Love On Hold,” I was drawn in. It starts with a steady 4/4 rhythm and a fuzzy bass line, but swiftly evolves, showcasing its versatility. Sharp guitar melodies pierce through the music, building up to electrifying climaxes. The vocals are what truly gripped me—not just expansive in range, but brimming with a myriad of emotions. The track pulses with an irresistible blend of energy and raw emotion
“No Rainbows In Indiana” delves into a hybrid of hard rock, blues, prog and classic rock, echoing influences from bands like Led Zeppelin and Yes. It commands attention, inviting head-nodding from the get-go. What sets it apart are its unpredictable transitions—especially the lightning-fast lead—that catch you off guard in the best way. The vocals carry a raw, distorted quality, as if channeled through an SM57 mic and a guitar amp, showcasing a remarkable range effortlessly displayed throughout.
“Give It To Me” rides on a compelling groove, featuring an irresistibly catchy hook that stays with you. Its melodies are the kind that pull you in, making you sing along effortlessly. The drummer stands out here with precise fills and an outstanding beat that keeps the song moving. Moreover, the lead guitar contributes a seamless, polished solo, adding depth and finesse to the overall composition.
Though “Queen’s Gambit” didn’t strike me as the EP’s standout, it still offered notable moments throughout. The soaring vocal harmonies pleasantly caught my attention, injecting moments of elation into the track. “Keep You Like a Secret (Tidal Wave)” brings a unique jazz-infused quality absent in the other songs. It presents a more intimate vocal delivery, setting it apart. As the song progresses, the guitars take on a Pink Floyd-esque quality, reminiscent of their atmospheric flights through the night sky. Additionally, the deliberate inclusion of the organ becomes evident, perfectly complementing the song’s essence and adding depth.
Whiskey Hotel Tango stands out as a powerful EP that has a lot of replayability. It skillfully captures the essence of a live performance, delivering an experience that feels vibrant and authentic. This EP is a gem for enthusiasts of hard rock, blues, and classic rock genres. Its ability to evoke the live atmosphere makes it an essential addition to any music lover’s collection, providing an immersive sonic experience that resonates deeply.
