The marriage of Myke Wilken and Ethan Rose’s musical talents has created one of the most idiosyncratic new sounds going today on the indie scene. Their band, We The Dreamers, outpaces efforts in a similar vein from the contemporaries on the basis of their lush compositional qualities alone. While one can often hear faltering confidence, occasional clumsy juxtapositions, and clunky transitions in other outfits and artists attempting to synthesize electronica and indie rock leanings, there are no speed bumps or rough seas for We The Dreamers. Their vision is remarkably complete from the first, but the sheer variety of their musical faces will astound even experienced listeners. They never sound out of place with any of their stylistic shifts; if anything, they exude confidence each time out. We The Dreamers have a powerful musical and lyrical narrative running through their work that will enchant longtime music devotees and casual fans alike.

The nine-song collection from Chicago born Elle Casazza does more than herald the arrival of a major new talent. The second single from Proof, “You”, illustrates that this young singer/songwriter is cut from a decidedly different stripe than many of her peers. Rather than wallowing in the same assortment of clichés and tropes typically defining pop songs, Casazza isn’t afraid to express gratitude and joy – not the typical métier of recording artists working in this area. Moreover, her songwriting sparkles with plain-spoken conversational poetry that goes far beyond the usual wont of pop stars in the making. It is abundantly clear this is a performer unwilling to settle for comfortable reworking of familiar formulas. Elle Casazza’s single and the unique stylistic approach she brings to her music shows she’s an artist committed to taking chances in the hopes of breaking through to another level.

Alex Lopez – Slowdown

Alex Lopez serves up a wide platter of his best blues guitar on the rocking, swooning, and reeling Slowdown. The fourteen song collection certainly dwarfs a lot of similar releases but Lopez and the Xpress show no sign of weariness over the length of the album. Instead, they maintain a tremendous pop in their step from the first and finish just as strong as they begin. Lopez began playing music at the age of eight and came to the guitar later than most, but his natural facility with the instrument is apparent on all of his releases and this latest effort sounds like the culmination of his efforts so far. It has the best production yet for any of his releases and the live quality achieved on the recording undoubtedly gives listeners some indication of what they are capable of as a live unit. Lopez and his band the Xpress are an obviously well oiled machine, but they are a band capable of leaving an emotional mark on their audience.

Oftentimes when a newer band strives to make their appearance known, in order to appeal to a modern audience, they tend to stick to the rising trends of music today: synthetic instruments, over-produced vocals and an emphasis on the appearance of the band themselves opposed to their music. That isn’t the case with The Spiders. This band has clearly taken their inspiration from the Old School, stripped-down styles of classic rock–most notably the styles that came out in the 1980s when a few bands began to stray away from the big hair and makeup, instead focusing on the sound they produced in order to set themselves apart from glam rock.

From Disney Music Group’s Hollywood Records Comes New Music From the Band that “Has the Potential to Take Over the Boy Band Scene That’s Wide Open For the Taking.” Forever in Your Mind–hit the ground running with the release of their 2016 self-titled EP. And now, with Summer just around the corner, they’ve released their new new double-A-side Hollywood Records single, “Smooth” and “Missing.” Produced by the renowned Dustin Atlas, Eau Noir and Josh Gudwin. “Smooth” is the first of the two, so it leaves no hesitation in describing. And it has already been described as “sporting a serpentine groove and a sleek blues riff.” And that’s not far off when you look at it musically with enough attention to detail as the vocals fight for domination. And together they pull off the right emotion to bode for a single with both delivering the same impact without sounding the same. I would just place “Smooth” in the lead, agreeing it has its right placing. It’s not an easy thing to top, whether you like boy bands and everything this music contains or not. There is a bigger world out there and Forever In Your Mind are exploring it.

Paul Childers - Naked Poetry

Thirteen songs on Naked Poetry give us an amazing picture of Paul Childers’ talents. He’s debuting with a well honed songwriting sense and presentation much different than what we typically hear from first albums. Childers specializes singing over groove oriented R&B arrangements with great drumming and a tasteful amount of guitar, but there are some blues strains running through the track that gives it an added spin. It isn’t all about the music, however. The lyrical content is top notch as well and Childers does a superb job of conveying his songwriting in a lucid way and never fails to pursue entertaining ends. You can’t teach this sort of self assurance out of the gate. Childers sounds like a fully rounded talent with no discernible weaknesses in his presentation. He comes on like a major talent and there’s little question he has the staying power to make great hay out of this opportunity.

Blister - No Good Deeds

If The Ramones, The Stooges, and Green Day, all had a threesome that lead to an all male pregnancy; then it would become the band of the next generation, called Blister straight out of North Carolina. Blister has released an album they like to call “No Good Deeds”, consisting of 19-tracks running almost at about 60 minutes in time length, this is one that will rock your socks off. So much so in fact that this album was written, recorded, in such an extensive amount of time, with such a back story it is hard to take it all in.
