Pipes Full of Soul with Wesley Haley

Wesley Haley is a singer who has a lot of soul packed into his pipes. He sings about his loved ones in “My Family” and sings it with such conviction that you wish you were in his bloodline. In “I Need You Now” it’s more of a freestyle performance with very little production, but with that - you can hear that he can really carry himself and a song on his shoulders. That same sentiment is carried into “Keep Me Day by Day.” This one reminds me of a movie like “Soul Food,” like you come to the scene where the family is figuring out everything is going to be alright, hugs are being dished out and a very powerful gospel track is playing, guiding the ending along. Prepare for the Surprise with UncleLarrysBand

UncleLarrysBand sets you up for a surprise. We get right into is with “All I Want.” It sounds more like the hip hop of the early ’90s in that it has this aggressive, yet playful demeanor. We go more for a club vibe with “In May City.” Here, it’s a party and the energy is both compelling and inviting. By the time we hit up “Karma,” we’re in the here and now with this modern feel to the rhymes. Then we get to “Love’A Terrible Thing to Waste.” Here things take a turn towards the unexpected. It’s this slow, light jazz track that comes out of left field after all the rap. It’s a good song, but a little odd to hear in the mix. The Sons of Zion of Newport News, Va: Nick of Time

The Sons of Zion of Newport News, Va latest, “Nick of Time” starts out with a life lesson in “Do All Things.” Context aside, it’s a song you’d hear on a Sunday at the congregation as the delivery could double as both a song and a sermon. We pick up the spirits with “He’s On Time” and really get into a nice groove, while the title track takes us back down to earth and fills us with soul and elegance. The same can be said about the empowering “Your Grace and Mercy” as well. Midwest artists like Gordy Hunt deliver great hooks and melodies to get you through your day. One of the greatest things a music-lover can experiences is the discovery of a new artist so exciting, so invigorating it makes the listener want to “really” write about it. Though I don’t write reviews under false pretenses I will admit many times I find myself writing reviews based on music that is to say the least – extremely forgetful. Sometimes, such jewels are found “underground” rather than mainstream media, but then again, that’s just one of the reasons why the indie scene can be so fascinating and exciting a t the same time. Case in point it’s a stage designed for creative people, a platform to let their art be seen, and in this case heard.

Maurice Oliver of Electronfarm Records knows that electronic music isn’t what it used to me. It’s gone mainstream over the past decade thanks to big names like Tiesto and Skrillex becoming as well known as Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. They play shows just as big and can sell just as many records. So with all that, Electrofarm is keeping up with the times and erasing the lines that used to once separate house from techno, worldbeat from electronica and so forth and so on. Hitting play on the site and one is given a song that right away sounds like something out of a jazz club in the heart of downtown New York. It then quickens up and takes on a more modern sound. You can hear the layers put into the production of it and that’s what makes it something to take note about. Roy Burrow Does it Up in the New Year

Roy Burrow does his thing and does it right. “Circle of Love” comes off strong. It’s not this airy, romantic track - but rather one that really makes you take notice. It’s like those type of people who come on strong, but it’s still endearing. In “Dancing Queen,” that same style comes into play again, but Roy tones down his demeanor just a bit but he still comes across with a bite in his tongue. With “I Could Get Used to This,” he really slows it all down and it’s a nice change of pace. What it reminds me of is an end of summer song. There’s still this life to it, but you can tell that it’s almost time to break out the blankets and snuggle. We get really sentimental and sweet with “I Love Loving You.” This one has lyrics made for a wedding’s first dance. What I love and respect about Roy is his ability to make listening to his music interesting. The Guitar Man Stan Fischer

Stan Fischer is a guitarist who uses his instrument like a well-oiled machine. The fragrant energy of “South of the Border” makes you feel like you’re in Mexico, shaking it at a local bar, drinks flowing, smiles wide. That energy is kept up as “Lovers From Beyond the Stars” comes through. With a little softer approach at the start, Stan really captures a true vibe in his playing. In “Carmelita” things take a turn. It is good, but doesn’t transport like the others, while “Rhum Boogie” gets the backside shaking a bit. When it comes to taking the guitar and making it a storyteller, Stan Fisher is the man. “Ride in Your Mind,” is the new single and music video release from rock band The Mailman’s Children. The video combines studio and rehearsal footage with what appears to be performance footage shot at a gig. The visuals in the video clearly show a group of musicians who love the whole process of their job, smiling and grooving along with the music. The tune is fun, snappy and catchy, and the video carries that positive energy, grabbing the viewer and bringing them along for the ride.
