Kevin AKA K-Rock is a lyricist who who’s been to hell and back and now finds solace in placing his words in the hands of very talented artists who range in style. “Your Stupidity Made Me Rich” features a soulful female singer. The song itself would be likely heard on AC radio thanks to its strong vocals but light music. “Jesus Met Me in Tennessee” is a pure of heart country song sung by a man with a twang in his delivery. That female seems to be back with “My Imagination Dreamed of You.” It tricks you though because it sounds like a country tune when it starts. “From Malibu, I Will Send for You” changes things up and gives us a more AC rock track that tells a different kind of love song. Apostle LaJaye’ Britt is DC born; New Jersey bred but now resides in North Carolina. There he takes his influences of good old fashioned soul and infuses it into something new. “Stand Up” is a smooth R&B song that glides from the speakers to listeners in one clean swoop. LaJaye’ Britt’s vocals are like butter as he advises throughout this mid-tempo track. “Do What I Do” sounds like a whole ensemble but it’s only Britt. It is also a modern take on gospel as well. Smiling Eye might sound like a full band, but it is lead and operated by one man. With an EP in the 80’s and an LP in 2000, “Smiley” shows no signs of slowing down. “Kali Hathor” makes you think of the Indian culture with its hints of what sounds like a sitar. Then that tone carries on throughout the song and the pace never really changes up. It’s more of a background kind of song in the middle of a movie scene; possibly at the bazaar. “All Nines” sounds like the last, only this time sounds more guitar driven. Mary Fakhoury wears a lot of hats but the one we’re going to focus on is the one she wears when she steps behind the mic. “Beautiful with You” is a pop rock song that sounds like it could’ve been on an early Avirl Lavigne album. Then you have “Burn,” which is a bit more somber at the start but perks up once it gets down to business on the music end of things. “Watch Me Fly” sounds like a completely different artist. This song showcases a sense of maturity in her vocals and the storyline of the lyrics. That same tone can also be heard in “Living with the Lights Out.” Even when she’s singing, Mary Fakhoury continues to wear a variety of hats. Mikayla Rose is a singer who takes on the hits of today and does them her way. “Say Something” is an acoustic cover that showcases the sultry tones of Mikayla Rose’s voice. Amy Whinehouse was a powerhouse and it takes guts to take on anything that ever went on one of her records. Mikayla Rose tries her hand at “Back to Black” does a pretty good job doing so. This one was near and dear to my personal heart because I love Katy Perry, but she did a good job doing the pop song over her way. Another cover that she did, but kept a little closer to the original was “Pumped Up Kicks.” Then there’s Lorde’s “Royals” that proves that the sensation’s voice can be handled by another. The End Time Messengers is definitely one for the books; the good book. Um, this is a first. Have you ever heard a gospel country song? Neither have I. That is until I came to know The End Time Messengers. Who knew this existed? Well for those who love gospel but also have a love for the Honky Tonk side of music, I introduce their song “Until His Grace Runs Out.” At first it’s weird and tough to wrap your head around but it honestly grows on you. The country adds a bit of life to the overall gospel tone of the song. You can hear the soulful twang in their voice is working hard for the lord. Lou Mars is a rock guy through and through. “Orenda (Reflect)” has a classic rock vibe and it’s easy to hear what Lou Mars was influenced by when it came time to make some music. “Sparkle (Phoenix Ashes)” has more of a modern rock feel, that slowly turns ballady. “Put Away (Broken)” puts a lot of focus on the musical side of Lou Mars’ sound. “Waiting 4 Sunrise (Phoneix Ashes)” has a sweet intro and continues on a soft path the whole way through. “Red So Grey (Reflect)” is a little darker than the others but not by much, the music just sounds more abrasive.
