The Alabama Spirituals’ “Worthy Is He” is a gospel album that sounds as beautiful as the heaven gates must look. The title track is just glorious and sets up the tone for the rest of the record, then “Jesus Will Fix It For You” steps up the beat and makes you think you’re at the revival. “Lord Don’t Leave Me” slows it back down and showcases the harmonies of The Alabama Spirituals well. If you’ve ever seen a southern church in a movie, it’s likely they’re loud and in charge of their faith – well a song like “Talk To God” is likely like the one heard in those movies. It’s full of life and hope. Rounding out the record is “I See Reflections of You” and is for those who might have their beliefs questioned. The Nathaniel Hardy Project’s “Nothing Last Forever!” is an EP chalked full of four songs that’ll leave you thinking and rapping just a little. “Nothing Last Forever!” is a reminder to cherish what you have now because the latter is a reality. The song itself has a feeling that’s not a downer, but it’s not exactly an upper either. It sits in the middle of things. “I Love You More!” has a good back beat to it that causes it to be this well done love song. “Can’t You See the Future?” asks with a more hip hop flow to the delivery. While the other songs were primarily sung, this one does it a little different by adding rhymes to the mix. “Shut the Hell Up! (The Snitch Version)” for some reason reminded me of the ’80s. It was like a niche of a theatrical dance number. Brittan Church Music spends his time in Texas making music that’s as great as anything you’d find in a flannel clad kid in the ’90s CD player. “Never Give Up” sounds like the soundtrack of a ’90s cult classic, with a Pearl Jam essence; “Last Kiss” style. It’s actually a radio ready song that’s as well produced as what you’d hear on rock radio. “Fur Elise” was more a take on ’70s rock and long licks and psychedelic breakdowns, while “BSL Song” was back to that signature alternative sound that was developed at the start with “Never Give Up.” The best part was that “BSL Song” name dropped Krusty Krab and if that’s not a “Spongebob” reference, then there’s another place out there…? Awesome. Up to this point I’ve enjoyed his vocal performance, but “Got To Go,” not so much. It was a little off compared to the others. That’s not something the “Whiskey Blues” can’t fix though. Just like in real life, this musical refreshment was just what was needed at the end of the day – or in this case, ends of our time with Brittan Church Music. Then Steven shows off his manners with “Thank You.” It’s a song that could be a nice Sunday sing-along. It’s got this crowd feel that would be very powerful sung by a group of believers. It’s kind of scary just because rides with warning always are. The rest of the album plays like a trip through the ’70s with rock and roll at the helm of your boat. From the groove of “Stroll of Soul” to the beat of “Little Miss Payback,” Jupiter Cannons covers all the bases and hits things out of the park for instrumentalists out there. “The Godfather Suite” gets a little sensual while “Procession of Pharaohs” keeps things moving nice and slow.
